{"id":1470,"date":"2026-06-15T06:39:57","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T06:39:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesdafrica.org\/?p=1470"},"modified":"2026-09-02T09:10:24","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T09:10:24","slug":"youth-led-solutions-to-waste-management-at-gakoromone-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/researchchairlifeskills.ku.ac.ke\/index.php\/2026\/06\/15\/youth-led-solutions-to-waste-management-at-gakoromone-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Chair Seminar"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Heri Africa Kenyatta University Research Chair Seminar<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cAdvancing collaborative, Africa-Led Research in Life Skills and Values Education\u201d<\/em><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p>On 15th June 2026, the HERI Africa Kenyatta University Research Chair hosted a seminar for the School of Education faculty and students at the International Language and Culture Center (ILCC).<\/p>\n<p>The seminar provided an important platform to introduce participants to the Harnessing Education Research for Impact in Africa (HERI Africa) initiative as a collaborative effort dedicated to transforming Africa&#8217;s education <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left; margin: 0 15px 10px 0; width: 200px; height: 222px;\" src=\"https:\/\/researchchairlifeskills.ku.ac.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/pic1-blog2.jpg\" \/> research ecosystem by making it more relevant, impactful, sustainable, and firmly rooted in Africa\u2019s priorities. By establishing Research Chairs across universities, participants were informed that HERI Africa would strengthen locally led research, foster collaboration among institutions, and promote the decolonization of knowledge production. The HERI Africa Kenyatta University Research Chair focuses on generating evidence on effective approaches to nurturing life skills and values among learners. Participants were taken through the Chair\u2019s objectives, including the development and testing of practical models for integrating life skills and values education across Kenya, supporting the successful implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum, and improving learning outcomes for all learners.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The seminar featured presentations from distinguished education researchers and practitioners, among them Dr Hezron Mogaka \u2013 Director, HERI Africa, who introduced participants to the HERI Africa initiative, outlining its vision and objectives. Dr. Moses Ngware of the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) presented the National Education Research Agenda, highlighting national priorities and opportunities for evidence-informed policymaking. <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0 0 10px 15px; width: 200px; height: 222px;\" src=\"https:\/\/researchchairlifeskills.ku.ac.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/pic2-blog2.jpg\" \/> Dr. John Mugo of Miziz Elimu Afrika, who is the Co-Research Chair, led an engaging discussion on democratizing education research, emphasizing the importance of research that is conducted with, for, and by Africans. The seminar highlighted HERI Africa&#8217;s research capacity-building initiatives and discussions on strengthening research excellence within the university. Beyond knowledge sharing, the seminar reinforced the importance of collaboration among researchers, academic institutions, and policymakers in addressing Africa&#8217;s education challenges. By creating spaces for dialogue and partnership, HERI Africa continues to build a strong foundation for innovative, context-responsive research that informs policy and practice.
